Nowadays, with so many options available, choosing skin care products can be as tricky as deciding on your favorite ice-cream flavor; a lot more complicated than it should be.
Oh the greenwashing!
We’re faced with many (many!) marketing tactics in today’s world. From “dangers” of foreign-sounding ingredient names, scary “chemicals,” and “100% ingredient” statements, these tactics may cause you to overlook potentially great products or choose products that are not the best after all.
Many people are faced with claims that a product is “chemical-free” but the truth is, everything is chemicals! Even water (just by itself) is a chemical, made from one oxygen atom bonded to two hydrogen atoms. That is a chemical reaction resulting in water. Companies try to sell their products by claiming they are “free from chemicals” but this is simply a scare tactic. This is very important to understand when shopping around.
But our biggest pet peeve, “100% insert-ingredient-here”. Have you ever come across these tricky statements where product filled with slew of ingredients, bolsters “100% shea butter” for example, only to find out that shea butter is so low on the list of the ingredients, that it makes you question how is it even legal to put those kind of statements on the label to begin with.
Choose what's important to you
We have to remember, not every natural ingredient is safe and not every synthetic ingredient is harmful. There is so much more to consider when making the decision of what is right for you. There has to be a right balance of natural vs synthetic that you are willing to work with, without losing your mind.
So, what are we saying? The best way to know for sure is first to figure out what is important to you, do your own research, find someone online who follows the same values as you do, or even go a step further and ask the companies directly for clarification.
Why we choose the natural route
At Rustic MAKA, it is our personal choice to use as many natural ingredients as we can. These type of ingredients allow us to combine their inner beauty with specific functionality. We love the benefits that complex botanicals and minerals offer and how every ingredient works in synergy with the human body. We use herbs, plant butters and other nature-loving ingredients that truly help your skin thrive and yield positive results.
Ingredients and their benefits
Here are few of our key ingredients with wonderful skin nourishing properties and function.
-
Meadowfoam Seed Oil
One of the key properties of Meadowfoam is its ability to create a healthy barrier on the surface of your skin to prevent moisture loss through the pores. This is especially important during the cooler months when everything from bitter, dry outdoor air to artificial heating can sap the moisture out of your skin.
-
Plum Kernel Oil
Hydrating and anti-inflammatory benefits mean that dry, flaky skin, irritation, puffiness, and dark spots will soon become a distant memory...
-
Sal Butter
This beautifully rich butter, obtained from the fruit of the Sal tree, will help to instantly relieve parched skin while reducing inflammation and improving the skin’s elasticity.
-
Bamboo Powder
This fine powder derived from a special bamboo family, is a rich source of silica, promoting collagen production and improving skin elasticity. Bamboo powder retains a structure of perfectly round beads, gently polishing, without damaging the skin.
-
Sodium Phytate
This ingredient is the perfect example of one that sounds weird but isn’t bad for you. Sodium phytate is an all-natural chelating agent (binds metal ions) used to boost preservation by helping to naturally stabilize formulations.
